Where to Eat in Spring Lake, Ranked by a Chef
August 26, 2026 / 4 min read
I cook for a living. I run the LiGreci Tasting Room, I was trained in classical technique, and I've spent years in kitchens where the details are the entire job. So when I tell you where to eat down here, it isn't a list of the places with the most Google reviews. It's where I go.
Five places. One for each part of the week.
Capsized Cafe
The closest breakfast to the cottage

Classic diner food, hip hop playing, and a staff that actually seems glad you walked in. That last part is harder to find than good eggs, and it's why this is the first stop of every trip and not just the nearest one.
Go early, go in whatever you slept in, bring the coffee back to the porch. This is the Tuesday morning move, not the special occasion move, and on day two of a week at the shore that's exactly what you want.
Spring Lake Seafood
Where I go when I want to watch someone do it right

They age their fish. Most people don't know that's a thing, and most kitchens don't bother, because it takes space, time, and a willingness to be wrong. Done properly it changes the texture entirely and concentrates flavor in a way fresh off the boat never does.
Get the sushi flight. It's the clearest read on the kitchen, and it'll tell you more in ten minutes than the whole menu will.
The pasta is also good, which is not a sentence you expect to write about a seafood place. Order it if you're two people and want to split in both directions.
Rod's
Our favorite in the area, and the first place I'd send anyone

Classic Jersey Shore seafood with an elegant twist. That phrase usually means somebody put a foam on a flounder. Here it means the fundamentals are right and then somebody had a good idea on top of them.
The volcano shrimp and the clams are non-negotiable. Order both. Don't split them, order two.
Big bar, and worth sitting at it. Some rooms are better at the bar than at the table, and this is one of them.
The Parker House
Two different restaurants in one building. Know which one you want.

The Porch is the upscale side. Seafood, sandwiches, and genuinely crafty appetizers and soups. Somebody back there is thinking, and it shows in the small plates more than the big ones.
But the real answer is Sunday at the grill. Cheap food, no influencers, and locals who've been coming for years. It's the most hospitable day of the week down here and the least performed. If you're in town for a week and you do one thing off this list, do this one.
Judy & Harry's
Arguably the best restaurant at the Jersey Shore, and I don't say that lightly

Modern takes on Italian, French, and American, which sounds like a menu with no point of view until you eat it and realize the point of view is precision. Clarified cocktails, which take days of work nobody in the dining room will ever see. That's the tell. Kitchens and bars that do invisible labor are kitchens and bars that care.
The Lounge is the room to sit in.
This is the $$$$ night. One per trip. Dress for it. Worth the drive.
One note on getting a table
Judy & Harry's needs a booking in July. The rest you can usually walk into if you go early or sit at the bar.
And when you'd rather stay in
Nobody eats out seven nights. By Wednesday somebody wants to be home, and the kitchen at the cottage is built for someone who actually cooks. Gas range, quartz island, real counter space.
Or take the night off entirely and I'll come cook it. Private dinners at the house, a menu built around whatever's good that week, seed oil free and from scratch, and you don't touch a pan or a dish.
